RainCamp... What it is like talking to yourself...

Raincamp

RainCamp!

ActiveRain RainCamp online was today!  9am to 1pm PST, so for us out on the west coast we started in the morning, and ended right after lunch.

Webinars are great to be on.  You get to hear the instructor talk, your computer shows the screens that they are explaining, and you get to check your email all at the same time.

Have you ever thought about what it was like on the other side?

I teach classes several times a week, sometimes to hundreds of students.  When I teach in person, I can see you, I can see the group, I can interact with people.  I can waive at you, wink at you, smile at you...  You can boo me, throw tomatoes at me, clap, or fall asleep...

But... When you do a webinar

  • You have your computer all set up.
  • You have your powerpoint all ready.
  • You turn off your cell phone, in case people text you to mess ya up. :)  HAHAHA.
  • You go over your notes.
  • You see the count of people that are on the webinar (and if anyone leaves...).
Then...  You start talking.
  • You talk to a blank screen.
  • It's like talking to yourself, or to the wall (I can see how sometimes that can be boring!).
  • Nobody to smile at you.
  • Not a person to giggle with.
  • No way to know if what you are saying, people are liking.
  • I can't drink diet coke, because I would probably burp...  And you would be able to hear it!
  • No way to know if your joke actually resonated with people, and made them giggle...
  • Just a blank screen...  With a dial thingie that tells you the amplification of your voice.
  • Just a meter showing when everyone sees your new slide.
  • When you are done, you call out to Bob and hope that the whole thing was still working.
I guess it's not that bad, since no one can throw tomatoes at you online... HA!  I had fun doing it today, in fact I had BLAST!  I will be hosting a weekly webinar in different topics starting later this month, and I hope to have you on!

During today's RainCamp webinar, I spoke about using Facebook to generate leads.  I made my assistant sit in the room to evaluate me, and all she did was roll her eyes at me and call me a nerd.

For those of you that were on, thanks!  And for those of you that were not, I want to know why...

Have a great night!
